This is a tool for finding online materials with some public rights, including material in the public domain due to expiry of copyright, and material which is still copyright but where copyright owners have created some public rights through licences.
The focus of the project is on Australia's information commons, at least at this stage. However, the same tools are applied to Canada's commons in order to test their generality, and as a subject valuable in its own right.
There is some online documentation available.
Unlocking IP Search has been developed as part of the Unlocking IP Project of the Cyberspace Law and Policy Centre at the University of New South Wales. Development is by Ben Bildstein, a PhD candidate at UNSW.
For more information on public-rights based search, see this page which points to resources, discusses methods, and presents data related to search for online commons.
If you have any questions, comments, suggestions for future development, or other feedback, please do not hesitate to contact Ben Bildstein at: ben.bildstein(AT)student.unsw.edu.au.
